introduced in 1981, the u.s. army battle dress uniform (bdu) replaced the olive drab field uniform and became the standard combat uniform of the u.s. armed forces throughout the late 20th century. recognisable for its woodland camouflage and functional pocket layout, the bdu was designed as a practical field garment built around durability, mobility and concealment.
the original bdu trousers feature a relaxed, straight-leg cut with a high waist and six-pocket construction: two side pockets, two large bellows cargo pockets and two buttoned back pockets. adjustable tabs at either side of the waistband allow the fit to be tightened without a belt, while drawstrings at the leg openings were originally designed to secure the trousers around combat boots. reinforced seat and knee panels further reflect the garment's purpose as a hard-wearing field uniform.
for our reconstruction, the original proportions have been deliberately altered. the trousers have been shortened to create a sharper, more contemporary silhouette, while the original adjustable tabs at the waistband have been retained, allowing the waist to be tightened and the fit to be adjusted. the original drawstring function has been repositioned higher within the shortened leg, creating a controlled and adjustable silhouette. the new drawstring tunnel is finished with stainless steel eyelets, introducing a precise hardware detail to the otherwise utilitarian construction.
the piece is completed with our logo embroidered onto the back pocket flap — a subtle signature integrated directly into the original military architecture.
